3 Easy Steps to Spark Joy Especially During Difficult Times

3 Easy Steps to Spark Joy Especially During Difficult Times

It’s easy to be stressed with everything that’s been happening in the world lately. Perhaps you may be one of those whose job got affected by the pandemic, or you may be dealing with some health, financial or relationship issues right now. In times like these, is it possible to still find true joy? The good  news is, the answer to that question is yes! You can experience joy even in the most stressful times and the path to it is quite simple.

1) Develop an attitude of gratitude

On top of our list is to practice gratitude everyday. Before you raise your eyebrows and wonder how it can help, take note that gratitude is not only a feel-good advice but also supported by science. Based on a research published by University of California Berkeley’s Greater Good Magazine, those who wrote gratitude letters have experienced better mental health compared to those who only recorded their negative experiences and received counseling. The study involved almost 300 adults and a majority of them were college students seeking mental health counseling at a university. Other studies also suggest that gratitude helps stimulate joy and promotes a more positive outlook in life.

Practising gratitude in your daily life is quite simple. Take some time in your day to recount everything that you’re thankful for. They don’t have to be grand, it can be something as simple as “I’m thankful for the roof over my head”, or “I appreciate that there’s clean drinking water for me to drink.” Write these in a journal and read it out loud at the end of the day. This will help you see that there are still things in your life that you’re privileged to have or experience even though you’re going through a tough time.

However, take note that you may not feel its immediate effects and that’s okay. Joy gradually increases with daily prayers  of gratitude and the effects on your brain can last for a long time, based on studies.

2) Be present

When you’re bombarded with problems, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. And when you think about what may happen in the future based on your current situation, you may feel even more hopeless or in despair. Thinking about the past and worrying about the future can rob you of the joy of today. This is why staying present is important especially during difficult times. Take life one day at a time. It would also be great to practise meditation to ground you to the present.

3) Do something you love (No matter how small it may be)

Practice focusing on little joy-inducing moments in the present, whether it's repeating your favorite music, planting new flowers in the garden, performing yoga, or meeting a good friend. It can also be lighting up a scented candle, praying, or watching funny videos. Finding joy becomes more natural when we set aside time each day to accomplish something meaningful, no matter how tiny.

Final word

While these tips may help, remember that it is normal to feel down from time to time and it’s okay. Feel whatever you’re feeling and cry if you want. However, we pray that you always find your way back to the path of joy.

If you or someone you care about is dealing with extreme sadness or grief or if you need help with your spiritual health, contact us. We’re here to help.

Lessons on Joy, Peace, and Meditation from Ptr. Joseph Wisdom Sesay

Lessons on Joy, Peace, and Meditation from Ptr. Joseph Wisdom Sesay

In our team’s pursuit to help people find freedom, joy, peace and healing, we recently launched our weekly online service on Seeking Spirituality. It is held every Thursday, 6PM - 7PM AEST with none other than our founder Pastor Joseph Wisdom Sesay as our speaker.

We kicked off this month’s weekly online service by discussing a topic that is crucial especially with everything that’s been happening today: Finding Peace and Increasing Your Joy in a Restless World. If you’re wondering what you can get from these weekly services, read on for some of the valuable words of wisdom from our founder.

Your spiritual health is essential

Much like your physical health, your spiritual health is very important for your well-being. Joy and peace are just two of the fruits of the spirit. When we are spiritually healthy, we may experience joy and peace that surpasses understanding. We become more compassionate and forgiving towards ourselves and others.

On the other hand, when we don’t take care of our spiritual health, we may feel like our lives are void of meaning and without purpose. Consequently, we may attract negative emotions such as worry, fear, extreme sadness, lack of confidence, and more. These negative emotions can keep peace and joy far away from us.

Presence and stillness, a key to a healthier you

So now the question stands, how do we achieve peace, joy and overall a healthier spiritual health? Pastor Joseph Wisdom Sesay shared that meditation, particularly being present and stillness are the keys to achieving peace.

At some level, every person on this planet experiences worry, fear, depression, and anxiety. Even a Biblical figure like Elijah experienced extreme fear and sadness that he just wished for God to take his life (1 Kings 19:4). Having said that, we are not exempt from encountering those problems. The difference lies in how we manage these negative emotions. It’s all about surrendering, having faith, and the ancient practice of meditation.

Meditation is backed by Science

Meditation is an ancient practice that has been studied by years of research. And various studies found out that meditation and mindfulness are benefinificial when it comes to improving your thinking and decision making. Practicing meditation for 8 weeks can lead to positive changes in your brain, helping you become more self-reliant and compassionate. It also helps develop empathy and your learning capabilities.

The path to joy and peace is simple

“Life was given to us to celebrate with every breath that we take.” - Pastor Joseph Wisdom Sesay

The secret of being at peace and joyful is simpler than we think. Being with our loved ones can increase our vibration. Lighting a candle can make you feel at peace. Spending time in nature can increase your joy and calm your mind. The list could go on, but the most important thing is to be present.

Worry begins when you think of the past and future

The miracle of the present is profound. In the present, there is no fear and worry. Worry begins to come in when you begin to think about the past and the future. Think about that time you felt ashamed once again because of something you remembered from the past? Or about that time you felt extreme anxiety because of what might happen in the future? Questions raced in your mind like “is this pandemic ever going to end?” “Will I get to keep my job?” “What if I lose this and that?” These are just some illustrations of how thinking about the past and future can stir worry in your heart.

Surrender the past and future

Knowing that, what should you do when you can’t help thinking about the past and the future? The answer is to surrender. Everytime you think of the past, let it go. Remember that it doesn't exist anymore. It's only an experience. And when you think about the future, have faith that everything will be okay and God has your future secured. These will stir up joy and peace into your life. The old is gone and better things are coming. Isn’t that amazing?

Practical steps to be present

Now, what do you do with the present? Find a time in your day to meditate and be present. The mind is given to us as a tool and not as a weapon. Use it to bring an increased joy and peace in your life. When you spend time with yourself, remember the following:

1)  Know that this moment is pure. It's the only moment that you have. You may have plans for tomorrow, but right now is actually the only moment you have.

2) Know that this moment is a sacred and holy moment. This space is a sacred, holy space. Close your eyes and just go deep inside you. Listen to the sound of music and recognise that you are in this space. Feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. Know that at this point, you are fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit.

3) Know that you are alive. Feel your breath and the air going into your organs. Know that the air that you're breathing is a holy air because the Holy Spirit is in you. Feel this amazing experience and let every sensation in you, make you feel alive.

The path to joy and peace is continuous

Being present is something that we should practice daily. And most of the time, you’ll need someone along the way who will encourage and remind you to nourish your soul. Join us every Thursday via Zoom, 6PM - 7PM AEST for our weekly service. Register via meetup here or click going on our Facebook event page:

The Significance of Last Rites and Counselling: Preparing for Someone’s Passing

The Significance of Last Rites and Counselling: Preparing for Someone’s Passing

End of life is a topic that most people try to avoid. Some are afraid, some aren’t ready, while some are just too occupied to care about it at the moment. But no matter how much we avoid talking about end of life, this is something inevitable. This is why at Divine Intercession, we consider last rites and counselling as very important work. Although the process will still be painful, it brings some level of preparation to the person who’s leaving and his or her loved ones.

1) Helps get rid of earthly baggage

All people sin and that’s a reality. Because of this, we all hurt someone and have been hurt by another. Some pains can feel impossible to forgive and we carry the baggage of unforgiveness through life. Receiving last rites or end of life counselling is important to ensure that no negativity carries over with you, crossing over with negativity such as unforgiveness can have significant consequences for our spirit and soul.

End of life counseling also helps us confront other matters that we have been unable or unwilling to attend to. These may include long term problems, unresolved issues, regrets, secrets and other “baggage.”

2) Helps a person reach the Divine Light

During last rites or end of life counselling, a person is taught more about salvation. In fact, the service’s primary goal is that a person reaches the light of Divine Love. The ministers will help the person “pass into the light” of Divine love without holding on to the negativities.

3) Helps reconcile with loved ones

Along with some teachings on forgiveness, a person also learns to put what he/she learned into action. This results in the closing of wounds, forgiveness for both parties, and for some, reconciliation.

4) Helps loved ones throughout the grieving process

End of life counselling is not only for someone who’s about to die but also their loved ones. At Divine Intercession, we help individuals and families go through the grieving process that may result from a loved one’s death.

While the process is painful, you don’t have to go through it alone. Choose to help your loved one be free and reach Divine Love without any baggage. A last rites service or counselling will help with that.

If you or someone you care about is dealing with grief or end of life, contact us. We’re here to help.

The Truth in Books and Films: Possession and Exorcism in Real Life

The Truth in Books and Films: Possession and Exorcism in Real Life

If you’re a fan of horror movies and books, you’ve probably encountered stories about exorcism or the process of driving away evil spirits and demons. It usually involves a spooky possessed person shouting with a growling voice, and an exorcist priest praying or sprinkling holy water. As interesting as this may seem, how much of what is shown in films and TV is real? Do they really happen in real life? How does one become  possessed? What happens during an exorcism or deliverance session?

The entertainment and news media have a lot to answer for some myths about “possession and exorcism.” Here at Divine Intercession, we call these as “spiritual affliction and deliverance.”

The perpetrator: demonic or negative entities

Possession or any form of spiritual affliction occurs when someone is adversely affected b y demonic or native entities, consciousnesses or energies. In fully understanding the nature of possession and exorcism, we must first have a look at what or “who” causes it -  demonic entities or the devil.

The devil is crafty and seeks to make you spiritually sick to destroy your relationship with the divine. They target spiritually unhealthy people, inflicting pain, confusion and more.

In movies and books, either the devil or long dead people possess a person for different reasons. Maybe they have unfinished business and are seeking revenge, or you’ve used their belongings. However, in reality, long dead people can’t harm us but the devil can. They are ultimately the perpetrators of spiritual afflictions or what you might be more familiar with as possession.

What happens when someone gets “possessed”

Contrary to what is seen in movies, possession does not always equate to shouting, rotating heads or shrunken eyes with dark circles all around. The truth is, there are two types of possession: perfect and partial possession.

Perfect possession is when a person has been completely taken over by the demon and is no longer in control of their body, mind, soul or spirit. This is when the demon is completely in control and the afflicted person is no longer strong enough to resist. It is like the body of the afflicted has become  a puppet to be used by the negative entity for its own purposes. This is what we typically see in movies and books.

Meanwhile, during a partial possession, the afflicted person still has the ability to come out of perfect possession intermittently depending on how strong or weak they are.

What happens in real life exorcism service

The Spiritual Affliction “industry” is unregulated and there are no universally agreed international standards of what constitutes the circumstances for Intervention. There are no common protocols for treatment. As opposed to what’s seen in movies and books, there are no standard set of prayers to be recited during an exorcism service.

What matters most in a real life exorcism service is the guidance of the Holy Spirit along with a spiritually strong and credible minister or as you might call it, an exorcist priest. Each case of the afflicted is unique and requires considerable openness to improvisation, guided, as always, by The Holy Spirit.

What about the ending

In movies and books, once the possessed person has been set free, they either continue their life or a creepy creature is seen in the background, haunting them. In reality, it is true that an afflicted person may be re-infected again if the wound is left open. This is why a continuous journey towards healing should be pursued. This involves strengthening one’s connection with the divine.

If you or someone you care about is dealing with any form of spiritual affliction, contact us. We’re here to help.

Make Room For Peace: Practical Steps to Bring Inner Peace Into Your Life

Make Room For Peace: Practical Steps to Bring Inner Peace Into Your Life

If we will not guard our minds and our hearts, we will live in a constant state of fear or worry. The world offers us a lot of things to worry about: pandemic, the future, what to eat, what to wear, how people perceive you, sickness, your long to-dos and even goals, and the list could go on forever! Good thing, there are simple techniques that can help us exchange worry and fear for peace. Here are some of them:

Slow down and meditate

It can be hard to take some time off with all the responsibilities that come our way. But trust us, you will feel a lot better and accomplish more if you take regular breaks and practise some meditation techniques. Don’t worry, you don’t have to take long breaks, a quiet 15-minute relaxation time will do!

To start off, set a regular time everyday where you can relax and process your day without distraction. You don’t have to commit to an hour of meditation if you won’t be able to stick to it. Start small and build up. Then, you may follow a meditation guide to help you through. For starters, you may opt to just sit comfortably and feel your breath and observe your senses. This will help you calm your body and be more present.

Limit your online consumption

We live in a world where almost everyone and everything’s online. While this brings a lot of benefits especially during pandemic, being constantly on screen can also cause some amount of anxiety and worry. Try to take a screen break every now and then.

Set boundaries

Aside from limiting your online consumption, you may also want to set boundaries and stay away from commitments that don’t really matter for you. For example, if a certain social gathering leaves you feeling drained after, remember that you can politely say no next time.

Relationship strains or unforgiveness can disturb our peace. So make sure to take off the baggage of unforgiveness. Stop hurting yourself for the mistakes of others and train yourself to forgive and let go of the negativity that keeps you from living your life to the fullest.

See problems for what they really are

Many times, we create unnecessary stress by overthinking a simple problem and thinking of unrealistic scenarios on how it can ruin your future. Before you panic over a seemingly terrible situation, breathe and focus on the present. Remember that you got this and the problem at hand won’t even matter in 5 years.

In the scriptures, Jesus said that no one has added a single hour in the span of his life by worrying. So don’t magnify the problem and consider this passage from Matthew 6:25-27: “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”

How Spirituality Helps Improve Your Mental Health

How Spirituality Helps Improve Your Mental Health

There are two extremes when people try to incorporate spirituality with mental health. Some try to brush off science and say “just pray then you will be well” or “you’re struggling because you have sinned.” On the other hand, some entirely forget spirituality when approaching mental health issues. However, numerous studies suggest that a holistic approach which includes spirituality can actually help with improving mental health. But before that, let’s define what spirituality is.

How is spirituality different from religion?

Although the terms religion and spirituality are often used interchangeably, they are not quite similar. Spirituality is about believing in something or someone higher or bigger than ourselves. It is about going beyond your mental and physical dimensions to what is bigger than our physiology. Meanwhile, religion is based on the unified beliefs of a community. It may involve belonging to a church or a certain sect.

Now the question is, do you need to belong to a church to practise seeking spirituality? Well, the answer is: that would be good since belonging to a church can be a good support system. However, in order to receive the benefits of seeking spirituality, you do not have to be a member of a religious congregation, nor are you required to commit to a regular, ongoing program of spiritual education. Now that that’s out of the way, let us dig deeper into the benefits of seeking spirituality in relation to your mental health.

1) Helps find a sense of purpose and meaning

Those who are struggling may find themselves pessimistic or lacking purpose. This is where spirituality can help. Many people who believe in something bigger than themselves find purpose in serving God and/or in helping others.

2) Boosts self-esteem and self-control

When a person knows he/she is connected to someone higher than them, they feel loved and important which consequently helps boost their self-confidence. Knowing that someone is also looking after you helps with improving self-control.

3) Connects you to your surroundings or community

People with similar spiritual beliefs tend to connect and understand themselves better. They tend to be more forgiving towards each other and share their struggles with each other.

4) Encourages mindfulness

Spirituality encourages a person to reflect and meditate which are healthy practices to maintain a positive vibration and mental state. In turn, people who are seeking spirituality are also able to cultivate joy, gratefulness, and compassion. They also tend to be calmer and more at peace.

5) Helps reduce stress

Those who are seeking spirituality believe that not everything is in their control and someone higher than them is totally capable of turning their situation around. This helps them worry less and consequently reduce stress.

So what now?

When seeking spirituality, people don’t always know where to turn. Traditional scripture and approaches have their place, but don’t always fit all the needs of people living in the modern world. Although highly encouraged, it is not always possible to attend church in person in this day and age to receive God’s blessing. But you don’t have to worry because Divine Intercession understands that God is everywhere and you can receive God’s blessings anytime wherever you may be.

If you’re interested in reaping the wonderful benefits of seeking spirituality, don’t hesitate to contact us. Divine Intercession is here to help you in your journey with Seeking Spirituality. Home Blessing Services: Cleansing Your Property and Bringing Positivity

Home Blessing Services: Cleansing Your Property and Bringing Positivity

If you have recently moved to a new home or a property where other people have lived before, you may want to consider seeking a house blessing service. A house blessing is a ceremony to cleanse, heal and bless a place. This may be done for home, office, building and other spaces people stay and spend time in. This involves blessing areas from exterior premises to interior rooms.

A house blessing service aims to clean the negative energy and bring blessing or positive energy. The negative energy may have come from the former occupant’s beliefs and practices which may include but are not limited to: using ouija boards, harbouring anger and fighting with each other, inviting evil spirits and more. The negative energy that the former occupant may have left can attract and invite evil spirits into your home, disturbing your peace.

How Does Evil Spirits Work?

The Devil and his servants act as a trickster. They do not have legal access to the Earth in general. They can only have that access through humans, so they attach themselves to objects such as your properties, waiting for opportunities to devour and occupy a man.

Can Evil Spirits live in a house?

Evil spirits can attach themselves to objects, and a house that is full of negative energy can attract evil spirits. This is why house healing is crucial especially if you don’t know the history of your property. For instance, a house can be full of negative energy because it may be a former grave, crime scene, or simply because of the practices of the former occupants.

What are the other benefits of home blessing?

Evil spirits prowl around God’s children waiting to pounce on any sign of weakness. Like any other predator, they will follow their victim, stay and wait until the perfect time. They will taunt your faith, tempting you against God’s will that will weaken your bond with the Holy Spirit and trust in God. They can also disturb your peace and rob you of your joy.

But aside from these, home blessings present a lot of wonderful benefits such as:

1. Cleansing and Bringing In Positive Energy

Have you ever felt a gloomy vibe upon entering a house? You may have felt the negative energy or the presence of an evil spirit. Because they continue to roam, you’ll never know when and where to find them. Being opportunistic, they’ll see you as a possible victim, thus stalk you, wearing you down in the process. You’ll start to have a personality change, being more irritable and angry, like a total 360 from how you used to be. This is because of your invisible housemate. A house blessing service through Divine Intercession will cleanse your home with unwanted visitors. This will remove any adverse effects, energies and bring positivity back to your life.

If you’re not feeling anything bad in your home, you may still take advantage of home blessing since it can help bring positive energy into your property. The result? Amplified joy and peace in your own space. Remember, it’s always best to live inside a blessed house.

2. Protection

A house blessing will provide immediate protection from evil spirits. It’s like your home has an invisible shield that Satan’s servants will stay away from.

3. Peace of Mind

Peace. This is the ultimate benefit of a house blessing service. Knowing that your home is free of evil spirits and has protection from God, you’ll definitely gain peace of mind. You’ll be able to live a happier, positive and peaceful life.

4. Radiate Positivity

Living in peace can help you radiate joy, peace, love, kindness and gentleness.

Bottom Line

A house blessing can cast away negative energies and bring in positive energy. However, it is more effective when combined with seeking spirituality

Protect your personal space from negative entities through a House Blessing Service. House blessings are done on newly built homes, old homes, dark and gloomy vibe, and if you are experiencing bad luck, nightmares, and other unexplainable things. A house blessing through Divine Intercession will bring back clarity, happiness, harmony, peace and prosperity into your space.

Is Unforgiveness Bad?

Is Unforgiveness Bad?

We are all sinners; we commit mistakes every day because we are mortals. This is not an excuse but simply the fact of life. What we do is to try to forgive, forget and move forward.

However, some transgressions and faults are challenging to overlook, such as infidelity, abandonment, lies and other sins. We see these as unforgivable because they cause extreme suffering. The experience creates a painful mark on our heart and mind making it harder to overcome. What happens next is that we hold on to this anger and resentment. In the end, we are unknowingly punishing ourselves and suffering unnecessarily.

A quote about anger comes to mind, "getting angry is punishing yourself for the mistakes of others." These are like words of wisdom that may have come from a person who experienced adverse effects of unforgiveness. Not being able to forgive can lead to various consequences from mental, physical and spiritual aspects.

Negative Effects of Unforgiveness

1. Unforgiveness is bad for your mental health

Another disorder that may develop due to the inability to forgive is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is an illness brought by trauma. Some symptoms of PTSD are anger outbursts, numbness, nightmares and tension. This debilitating disease may result in damaged relationships and self-harm if left untreated.

Chronic anger from the inability to forgive negatively affects one's mental health, resulting in irregular sleep patterns, anxiety, depression and isolation. This distorts your perspective of life, making you doubtful and wary of the people around you.

2. Unforgiveness is bad for your physical health

Holding on to anger and grudge increases the risk of developing heart disease and cancer. Unforgiveness does not directly cause these diseases. It's the pent-up anger, resentment and grief that affects the body's immune system. Repressed emotions affect the stress hormone that alters your body's immune response together with the reproductive and digestive system. These disruptions then develop into various illnesses.

3. Unforgiveness is bad for your spiritual health.

"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?' Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.' " – Matthew 18:21-22

Christ has taught the apostles to always be forgiving of those who repent. This is evident in the book of Matthew. Peter asked Jesus how many times he should forgive his brothers and sisters who have sinned against him, for he already forgave them seven times. From a human’s point of view, seven is considered a lot. But Christ answered him that "not seven but seventy-seven." This is not an actual number to count. It is only a parameter to always have a forgiving heart when someone repents and asks for forgiveness.

"Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him."- 1 John 3:15

An unforgiving heart is a result of anger and hate, which are the opposite of love. In John 3:15, anyone who hates a brother and sister is a murderer and has no place in the eternal life that God has promised His children. Holding on to hate upsets your relationship with God because this goes against his will.

"The Lord, our God, is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him." - Daniel 9:9

God wants you to live with a loving and merciful heart. From a loving heart, you can forgive those who repent and ask for forgiveness. God has continuously shown the value of forgiveness as he forgives us all for our numerous sins.

"But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." - Matthew 6:15

Forgiving others gives you a chance at redemption. There are several verses in the Holy Scripture reiterating how forgiving those who have sinned will receive forgiveness from God. Ultimately, if you want to have a relationship with God, you have to follow his examples and teachings to love, forgive and follow his life path.

Learn to Forgive

Situation and history affect how a person can readily forgive. Some have a naturally forgiving character, while some harbours hate longer due to personal issues. It is important to note that forgiving is not as simple as saying I forgive you for the sake of forgiving. Forgiving is a conscious decision to be free of one's ill feelings towards self or others and replace them with compassion, empathy and kindness.

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters." - 1 John 3:16

God has taught us to forgive, not for the sinner but for our own sake. Because when we forgive others, God will also forgive us of our trespasses. He demonstrated how we must love each other, similar to how Jesus Christ laid His life to redeem us from our sins. If the pure could shoulder the bulk of our sins, the task to forgive those who have erred against us is menial.

Take Away

Forgiving is an act that many cannot do. It is not that unforgiving people choose not to do so, but some just don't know how to start. Furthermore, forgiveness does not only apply to others. Forgiving one's self is also a crucial aspect in the process of healing. Learning to forgive is freeing to the mind, heart and soul that will result in a happy, satisfied and healthier you. Stop crucifying yourself for the mistakes of others, train yourself on how to forgive and let go of the negativity that keeps you from living your life to the fullest.

What is Seeking Spirituality and Why Is It Important

What is Seeking Spirituality and Why Is It Important

More and more people are seeking spirituality due to the challenges and uncertainties of today's world. At some point in our lives, each of us aims to nurture and explore spirituality to understand life's purpose. Why are you working, why are you making friends? Some of these questions may have entered your mind. This is the Holy Spirit guiding you to seek your spirituality and choose the path of enlightenment.

Spirituality is interchangeably used with religion. Both have the same purpose: developing and strengthening faith in the almighty and spiritual being. However, there is quite a difference between the two. Religion has a set of practices, rites and beliefs shared by a community or group, while a person can embrace his own spirituality without having to belong in a religion. In recent years, more people see that spirituality is more important than joining a religion. It is good if you have a good hold of your spirituality. However, some don't know where to start or have lost their spiritual essence. To guide you, let's find out how and where spirituality comes from?

Where does Spirituality Come From?

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;" - 1
Corinthians 6:19

The Bible states that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Each of us is blessed with the Holy Spirit that lives in our heart. This is embedded in us to identify God's children. God sent Jesus Christ in a human form to be an example and testimony of His love, power and presence. Christ walked the path set by God for Him to spread the gospel of the Lord. This may seem like an unimportant task, but unknown to most, its purpose was to sow the seed of God's words to activate and grow the Holy Spirit given to us.

So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. - Romans 10:17

Faith comes to those who have heard the acts and words of God. Likewise, his words are like seeds that grow with continuous care, strengthening the Holy Spirit that protects us from evil forces. Knowing that spirituality is innate in us all brings us to question why we should seek it.

What is the Importance of Spirituality?

Seeking spirituality means actively looking to understand more about the spiritual aspect of life. The soul and wisdom bring value to everything we do. It is recognising that there is a higher power involved in the reality of life. Seeking spirituality gives perspective, establishes a purpose, and offers a way to cope with life changes and uncertainties. A healthy spirituality provides a sense of peace, balance and wholeness. Other benefits of seeking spirituality are:

1. Strengthening your spirit

"Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength" - Isaiah 40:31

Our spirit needs its nourishments, like how your body requires food to grow and build muscles. Nurturing your soul will result in a positive outlook, bringing back or increasing hope, trust and a new zest to live and face the world's vicissitudes.

2. Amplify your joy

"You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. - Psalm 16:11

If you seek to walk to the path of life, he will grant you joy in your present and eternal life. This supports Matthew 6:33, stating that all of the things will be added to you if you seek God's kingdom.

God is an all-powerful being that we can trust. He is more powerful than the wealthiest and most influential person in the world is. If you have him on your side, will there be a need to fear the unknown or the future?

God knows your needs before you even realise them, and like a loving parent, he will provide you with things that will benefit you. All he asks in return is for you to follow and walk his path to life.

3. Amplify your love for self and others

"And now these three remain faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." - 1 Cor 13:13

Love is the greatest virtue that God teaches us. This replaced the 10 commandments of the Old Testament, for, with love, you will not kill nor commit adultery. You'll honour your parents. Your love for God will automatically result in remembering the Sabbath, recognising His power, and give ultimate respect to His name. You'll treat yourself and others in the most respectful and caring way. That is how powerful love is.

4. Amplify inner peace

"May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace as you trust in him." - Romans 15:13A

What robs you of inner peace is the doubt and fear cast by the devil. If you seek spirituality, God will bless you with inner peace. God provides inner peace through his reassuring words of protection and promise. If you walk the path of life, He will take you under his wings. He shall send angels to fight unseen evil foes and protect you from harm.

5. It helps you connect with others

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. - Colossians 3:12-14

Following God's words, you'll be able to have a healthy relationship and connect with others through love. Practising compassion, kindness, humility, tenderness and tolerance exemplified by Christ prevents miscommunication, misunderstanding, anger and resentment, resulting in harmonious and healthy relationships.

What is Deliverance and Who Needs It

What is Deliverance and Who Needs It

The Hollywood version of deliverance often involves a demon-inflicted person tied onto a chair with surrounding objects shattering through the windows or moving around. However, this is not what happens in real life.

Deliverance occurs in different ways depending on need and it’s not exclusive to a particular faith. Anyone who is suffering from spiritual affliction can have access to salvation. Let's have a detailed understanding of what deliverance is in real life and who needs it.

Deliverance is the act of God to rescue his children from danger. It is served through spiritual interventions, typically provided by a minister or any spiritual authority. The intercessor with unyielding and unquestionable faith will help the afflicted and guide them out of the darkness using a religious-based approach.

Who Needs Deliverance?

Anyone who is experiencing spiritual affliction needs deliverance. The devil is always looking for opportunities to take us captive. He takes all sorts of forms to tempt us from living an abundant life that God had intended for us to live. In Matthew 26:41, Jesus said that we should watch and pray to resist temptation, for even with a willing spirit, our human flesh is weak and vulnerable to worldly temptations. Some spiritual weaknesses are caused by various life situations that wane our connection with the Holy Spirit.

What are Some Causes of Spiritual Afflictions?

As believers, we are equipped with God's divine protection against evil spirits. However, spiritual afflictions happen brought about by various circumstances. Some of these are substance abuse, physical and emotional trauma, knowing or unknowingly interacting with the devil, use of demonic medium and holding resentment against transgressors.

1. Substance abuse

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." - 1 Peter 5:8

Drug and alcohol use and addiction is an example of worldly vices that God has warned us of. These substances promote a false sense of happiness, thus making you try it until you get addicted. Intoxication affects how we think, and it creates a temporary feeling of euphoria. In this state, evil spirits can easily lure you into committing bad choices and heinous acts. This is why Peter warned us to be vigilant at all times because Satan is always lurking and waiting for that time to complete his work.

"And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,"

- Ephesians 5:18

In Paul's letter to the Ephesians, he had told them to follow the examples of Jesus and live the will of the Lord. He advised them to fill themselves with the Holy Spirit instead of getting drunk from wine.

2. Anger or Resentment

"Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil." - Psalm 37:8

Unresolved pain and anger bleed to resentment, which can play with our emotion. These trifling negative feelings stack up, resulting in isolation, overthinking and ultimately shattered relationships. Resentment grows when you hold on to bad experiences and memories. Satan uses our emotions to trick us into going against God's will.

3. Knowing or unknowingly interacting with the devil

"And give no opportunity to the devil." - Ephesians 4:27

Actively pursuing the path of the devil makes your body accessible to evil spirits. Attempting to connect with the spirit world leaves an opening for the trickster to come in. The Ouija board was an ordinary board game until it was associated with reaching and speaking to spirits after the Civil War. The devil again uses the emotion that comes with playing the Ouija board. It starts with fear that may progress to visions and hauntings.

4. Trauma

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Physical and emotional trauma can lead to helplessness, anxiety, and a sense of disconnection from other people—the mind shifts to distrust and resentment. You begin to question God's love and protection, and your spiritual relationship with him weakens. This gives the evil spirits the time to swoop in and take advantage of your vulnerability. You'll lose faith as the devil prompts on how God has forsaken you.

5. Taking part in satanic practices

"They served the idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons; they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan." - Psalm 106:36–38

Partaking in demonic rituals like sacrifices and attending satanic rites, whether for fun or belief, is like a green light to the devil and his servants.  This signals your weak and wavering faith. Sacrifices made by the Canaanites were deemed as worship to the devil.
